Beginning March 1st, Frank Sinatra fans will be able to hear their favorite tunes once again on Broadway. Once again the lyrics of songs like “Fly Me to the Moon,” “My Way,” and “That’s Life” will come to life on stage. The visionary choreographer Twyla Tharp, known for the Broadway hit “Movin’ Out,” with music by Billy Joel, brings yet another dance musical titled “Come Fly Away.” Tharp has used an extremely unique approach, where the original recordings of Frank Sinatra will be blended with a live 19-piece band. That ought to be an interesting experience
“Come Fly Away” is the story of four couples and their respective love stories. While the story may not be the most radical one to come on stage, it’s the song and dance numbers that you will have to watch out for. As the couples fall in and out of love, 15 of the best dancers in the world spin a magical evening of romance and seduction through well choreographed songs.
This production was originally titled “Come Fly with Me”, this dance musical opened to a world premier at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre this past September. The one that opens on March 1 brings together quite a few of the team members of the Alliance Theater production, including designer James Youmans, costume designer Katherine Roth, lighting designer Donald Holder, sound designer Peter McBoyle, music supervisor Patrick Vacciarello, and orchestrators Dave Pierce and Don Sebesky on the technical side.
On the acting front, Tony nominees Keith Roberts and John Selya are joined by Karine Plantadit, Rika Okamoto, Holley Farmer, Matthew Dibble, Charlie Neshyba-Hodges, and Laura Mead all of whom were also a part of the acclaimed world premiere production at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre.
The company also includes Colin Bradbury, Kristine Bendul, Jeremy Cox, Todd Burnsed, Amanda Edge, Carolyn Doherty, Heather Hamilton, Cody Green, Meredith Miles, Laurie Kanyok, Eric Otto, Marielys Molina, Joel Prouty, Justin Peck, and Ron Todorowski.
It is advised that you book your tickets in advance. People are already clamoring for tickets and if you are a true blue Frank Sinatra fan, this is not an opportunity you are going to let slip from your hands. The motto is “beg borrow or steal” if you have to, but don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity.
