Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay and TV news anchor Jodi Applegate tied the knot at The Plaza Hotel last night in a lavish wedding ceremony packed with Yankee pinstripe powerhouses and skippered by former Mayor, die-hard Yankee fan Rudy Giuliani. Among the 350 guests several former Yankee greats including Paul O’Neill, Tino Martinez and Darryl Strawberry turned out to watch the happy couple exchange vows.
Baseball bigs,Yanks manager Joe Girardi and co-owner Hal Steinbrenner rubbed elbows with TV personalities such as NBC anchor Brian Williams and Applegate’s WPIX/Channel 11 colleagues Kaity Tong and New York Weatherman Mr. G. other prominent people included actor Danny Aiello, who is Kay’s uncle, and former Yanks and Kay’s YES-network colleagues Al Leiter, David Cone and John Flaherty. The president of Fordham University, Kay’s alma mater, gave the benediction before a grinning Giuliani took the helm.Former Yankee centerfielder and accomplished classical guitarist Bernie Williams got into the act and jammed with the wedding band.
Applegate’s dress was white empire lace designed by Suzanne Neville from the Wedding Atelier bridal boutique. Applegate changed her dress three more times throughout the night. The auburn-haired bride sported a pair of 14-carat diamond earrings on loan from London Jewelry,custom silk gloves, silk velvet cuffs and a white fox fur stole and the newlyweds had their first dance to Michael Buble’s “Haven’t Met You Yet.”
The two met a few years back while attending the local Emmy awards and it was love at first sight .Kay was so taken with the Applegate, that he couldn’t stop talking about her on his radio show the following day.Applegate, who was alerted by a producer, called the station to tease Kay about his boyish crush. After a whirlwind romance the two decided it was time to make it official.
