New York is about to have its first ever official Oscar viewing gala on Sunday, March 7, at 7 p.m. The venue is Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. This event has been presented by a partnership of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and NYC & Company.

If you wish to whet your appetite before the event, make sure you reach in time for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres that will be served at 7 pm. The live broadcasting of the 82nd Academy Awards will begin at 8.30 pm and the guests have the option of watching the broadcast on the big screen or hang out in the foyer with their favorite drink. By the way, you may be interested in knowing that an open bar will run throughout the evening, so you could also watch the show on the screens in the lobby. You will be kept company by film buffs, glitterati, and industry insiders; and as a memento, you will receive the same official Academy Awards program that nominees will be holding at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

The evening will also see an amazing performance by the “Juilliard Jazz Ensemble” as they enthrall the audience with music from Oscar-winning films. “Starring Role” tickets, which are the most premium ones since they give you the best seat in the house and allow you access to the VIP lounge, are $225 each. The tickets for the “Supporting Role” sell for $150 each. The dress code for the evening is cocktail attire.  As Karen Sortito Senior VP, Entertainment, at NYC & Co. puts it “The Oscar Night and the City event is the perfect way for visitors and residents to salute the city’s rich film history while viewing this year’s 82nd Academy Awards ceremony in style.”

This event officially marks the end of the celebrations in New York that will last almost a week, beginning on March 1. The celebration includes a host of cultural events that offer a salutation to the grand event known as the Oscars. Proceeds from this evening will go towards the NYC & Company Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to “support New York City tourism by promoting the arts and cultural organizations that make visiting the City a special and exciting experience.” Of the events that are to take place during the Big Apple’s Oscars celebration week is the hosting of an Oscar-winning movie marathon from March 5 to March 7, which will feature movies with the New York City-theme, such as “Annie Hall,” “The Godfather,” and “West Side Story.” That’s bound to strike a chord with New Yorkers!
