Tired of stuffy old museums with their high and mighty ‘look-but-don’t touch’ policies? Got the itch to reach over and touch some of the exhibits and feel them? Well, if you are in one of your moods where you just need to have your own way, head over to the five storey Madame Tussauds museum and get close to all the celebrities you like and adore.
Madame Tussauds is located on 42nd Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues, and offers a great experience for both children as well as adults. There are six themes in these museum that feature wax figures of famous, infamous, notable, current and yesteryear celebrities and figures of national importance. There are also some great interactive exhibits here.
In spite of the effort that goes into maintaining each attraction, all visitors are encouraged to touch, feel, hug, cuddle up to, kiss, and pose with all the celebrities here. You may not get a chance in real life, so why not enjoy yourself here while you can! So, walk the red carpet with Jennifer Aniston, sing with American Idol stars, ride with Lance Armstrong in a Tour de France time trial or make JLo blush by whispering into her ears. Nobody is going to pull you up for that.
The six themes in the museum are as follows:
- The Opening Night Party – The setting is that of an Italian baroque garden and you can see celebrities like Woody Allen, Nicolas Cage, Bette Midler, Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Grant, Whoopi Goldberg, and Samuel Jackson.
- Madame Tussaud’s Story - This section takes you through nearly two centuries of history and features notable figures like Marie Antoinette and Josephine, Napoleon’s lover.
- Behind the Scenes – This section is a little different from the others in that it is an exhibit that gives you an insight into the process of creating the wax figures you see throughout the museum.
- The Gallery – The Gallery is in the setting of a meeting at the United Nations and features political leaders like Dalai Lama, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Diana, Princess of Wales:
- Popular Culture – This is the place for you if you want to know about the trendsetters of the 20th century. Here, you can shake hands with Babe Ruth, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, The Beatles, and Neil Armstrong.
- It Happened in New York – This last section tells you of the history of this vibrant city.
Madam Tussauds came to the United States in 2000 with her first attraction in Las Vegas which got such tremendous response that the next stop was NYC’s Time Square location. The museum remains popular and is one of the major crowd pullers of this city. Go and rub your shoulders with the who’s who of movies, music, politics, and history. Where else are they all going to come together again?
