Opening Night of Rooftop Films 14th Annual Summer Series Rooftop of “Underground Movies Outdoors” . Presented in partnership with: IFC, New York magazine, Radeberger, Open Road NY, New Design High School, Fontanas, the NYC Council Manhattan Delegation & NYS Senator Daniel L. Squadron.

Rooftop opens our 14th year of “Underground Movies Outdoors” with our annual program of some of the most unique and astonishing cinema in the world. At Rooftop, there is an appreciation for the small stories that represent the big picture, personal cinema that speaks to everyone, dynamic low-budget films that pack the wallop of the grandest features. The films we show address important cultural and political issues with the daring opinions of emerging artists. These fantastic short films are filled with ideas that are as sharp as anything you’ll see in a feature film, but get their message across in a hurry using innovation, originality and outlandish creativity.

For those who dont’t think a film has to be long to be good .This program is filled with films that focus on the power of storytelling, about the dangers of posturing and the joys of lying, about the magnificent thrill of re-writing history. Rooftop is all about the value of a work of art isn’t judged by how long it is, but how long it stays in the mind. These films you will rememberthe themes will linger in your mind .A genre unto themselves, this is what is ment by short films.

THE FILMS
STAR WARS: RETOLD (Joseph Nicolosi | Austin, TX | 4 min.)
Everyone’s seen Star Wars, right? Well, not quite everyone. Rooftop 2010 kicks off with a fresh take on the most well known blockbuster of all time.

VOICE ON THE LINE (Kelly Sears | Houston, TX | 7 min.)
Enchanting operators, covert government plots, Cold War paranoia and ordinary telephones forever changed how we got in touch with one another. It’s all explained in this sultry collage animation by Rooftop alum Kelly Sears.

THE S FROM HELL (Rodney Ascher | Los Angeles, CA | 9 min.)
The shocking true story of the most terrifying logo of all time.

LOGORAMA (Francois Alaux, Herve de Crecy | France | 17 min.)
The recipient of the 2009 Academy Award for best animated short film features spectacular car chases, an intense hostage crisis, wild animals rampaging through the city, and more, all set in a world of corporate logos frighteningly like our own.

GIT GOB (Philip Eddolls | Canada | 1:30 min.)
