One man’s reckless fireball is another man’s overpriced artisan flaming cocktail .The owner of a Chinatown nightclub known for its absinthe-den-inspired decor and $16 mixed drinks is insisting that, technically, and he has never set fire to his carrara marble “performance bar.”
Albert Trummer a self-proclaimed Austrian “cocktail artist”said he was just mixing “flaming drinks,”, after yesterdays brief court appearance on his misdemeanor reckless-endangerment . Trummer claims that there is no fire code requirement for “flaming drinks” said after a brief court appearance on his misdemeanor reckless-endangerment case.Prosecutors have made no plea offer in the case so far and November 9th has been set as a possible trial date.
Trummer, 40, was arrested at the bar by undercover fire marshalls back in June. He had put on a similar “flambe” demonstration across the 20-foot bar for a “Real Housewives of New York City” shoot, and has received a prior warning against flaming cocktail. It seems the ignited brandy, vodka and whiskey sparked a five-foot-high curtain of flame dangerously close to a fabric canopy and other combustibles, the fire marshalls complained to prosecutors.
