Chestnuts Roasting on the Flaming Idiots

The children are at home from school these days hankering after a good time during their holidays. You could take them shopping and buy them gifts for the yuletide season, but honestly, how long do you think you can do that, not to mention the tremendous amount of money you are going to spend doing the rounds of various shopping malls.

Thank God, Pyro, Gyro and Walter are back to save your soul from constant harassing. The Flaming Idiots who disappeared for a while after what they said was their “very last show ever” at The New Victory in 2004 have reunited for their new show ‘Chestnuts Roasting on the Flaming Idiots’. The three-man circus is going to bedazzle your children and have them glued to their seats as they perform 13 stunts which range from the smart to the whacky to the genuinely dangerous ones. And accompanying these stunts is the non-stop nonsensically funny patter that keeps the audience in splits throughout the show.

As the performance begins, you might wonder where all the daring stunts are and what happened to all the expertise you’d heard about. The performance happening in front of you might be extremely unimpressive and you may even wonder if you haven’t wandered into the wrong show by mistake. However, after the trio has set your expectations absolutely low, they begin to amaze you with all kinds of great acts that makes you want to stand up and applaud them till your hands ache. You will probably be doing that anyway at the end of their show.

However, good as their juggling might be, the real show stealer is the banter that the trio exchanges throughout the act. So, they crack jokes while they throw bean bag chairs into the air and dexterously spin them around, they pull gags while juggling flaming torches, and manage to make you laugh even when they are juggling knives all around a small kid.

This unexpected reunion of the zany mad caps has been received very well indeed. One can guess as much from the demand for tickets of this show since it opened at the New Victory Theater on December 4. Now you know where you can take your kids when they start nagging you. ‘Chestnuts Roasting’ doesn’t seem like a traditional Christmas show, even if there are some reindeers and snowflakes to give one the feel of the holiday season, but it is completely enjoyable nonetheless. The shows of Chestnuts Roasting are on from 12 pm to 7 pm and the show closes on January 3, 2010. The tickets are priced between $15and $50.
