HalloweenHalloween is a great holiday. I’ve always loved it. I loved it when I was 8 years old dressing up as Superman and trick or treating, and I love it now dressing up with my boys and going to parties. Halloween is a chance for young children to eat lots of candy and get on sugar highs, and a chance for single guys in New York to party and meet girls. Although a large part of me wishes I was in the former category, as a 24 year old single guy living in Manhattan I fall into the latter.

I had a two night Halloween celebration this year. I am on the board of a great charity that raises money to help treat cancer patients, and on Friday night we had our annual ‘Junior’ party. It was a costume party at the nightclub Marquee. We had a great turnout. Charity events are ALWAYS a great opportunity for single guys and single girls to meet, but I did know just about 100% of the people there. Anyway, I dressed up as a barbershop quartet with my friends; actually, there were 6 of us, so it was technically a barbershop sextet. We had red and white stripe vests, a straw hat with a red bow, a red bowtie, black pants, and black shoes…it was great. Six single studs out on the prowl, serenading girls left and right (maybe that’s why only one of us, JTH, went home with a lady). The event went very well, open bar, a few minor celebrity appearances (some of the cast of gossip girls, a cast from a reality TV show, SK, and my mom). As many beautiful ladies as there were, I ended up…well, I’ll leave this part to your imagination. A recollection would be my imagination anyway, since I don’t really remember the end of the night). Nonetheless, charity events remain one of the best places to meet single females.

I woke up Saturday morning in pain from the open bar. My head hurt, my stomach hurt, and the last thing I wanted to think about was alcohol. As much as I didn’t want to think about it, I woke up 8 hours away from attending another open bar event. A couple of my good friends threw a huge loft party (costume party of course); 700+ tickets sold, 3 bars, 15 bartenders, thousands of dollars worth of liquor, but of course, only 4 bathroom stalls. I ended up going to this party dressed up as a NFL sideline referee. My boy DRT (we’ll call him direct TV) has a connection to the NFL, so we had actual NFL gear; everything from the neon vests, to the shoes, to the actual dial-a-down prop (I carried the dial a down, DRT and R had the chains…a great 3 person costume). We walked in the party with our huge props and immediately caught everyone’s attention; at least 10 people must have requested pictures with us. By the end of the night, R was falling in love with an old hook up from his hometown, and Direct TV was calling a girl his girlfriend. And talk about a place to meet girls, there were over 700 people there! Yes, I probably knew at least half of the people there, but still, 700+ is a lot of people. Talk about an opportunity to meet a new girl, reconnect with an old one, or make a move on a girl that you haven’t seen or hadn’t the chance to go after. But of course, I ended up going home with a girl that I’ve hooked up with before (it’s just too easy not too). There is nothing wrong with it, but as Charlie Sheen says on Two and a Half Men, “I need some strange.”

So, I had two great nights. Direct TV, R, and I ended up dipping into our current database, but hey, it happens and it was fun. I told you, Halloween is awesome, especially as a single guy in NYC.
