The CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers for America) will recognize the outstanding contributions made to American Fashion by industry professionals by hosting the 29th annual CFDA Fashion Awards this spring.
Nominated designers, journalists, stylists, and the like, will be honored for their commitment, vision, and achievements. The most coveted awards are the six designer of the year awards which honor designers for their creative vision and their ready to wear spring and fall collections. In 1986 Perry Ellis developed the coveted emerging talent award, also known as the Swarovski Awards, to recognize the most promising up and coming American based designers.
The CFDA Award Selection Committee, which consists of 300 members of the CFDA along with 500 stylists, journalists, and retailers, receive nomination ballots in early February which must be sent to the CFDA by early March. Members can nominate as many as three designers for each of the six Designer of the Year awards and up to five nominations for each of the honoree Awards.
