I have been seriously excited about finally acquainting myself with Dylan’s Candy Bar. I actually heard about Dylan’s years before relocating to New York from San Francisco but had not made my way to the upper east side spot. A few colleagues of mine are borderline obsessed and have their Dylan containers full of their indulgent delights each Monday only to evaporate come Tuesday afternoon. I can put down a few sweets myself and have an affection for sour peach and dark chocolate. However, upon entering Dylan’s, two words came to mind….birth control. It was packed with indulgent, spoiled, sugar-high, stealing and stashing brats. They really couldn’t help themselves I am sure but it made me think twice about the time I would enter Dylan’s again and definitely questioning some rules in parenting. Yikes. Anyways, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Dylan’s because it is like no other. The experience just cannot be duped anywhere else. There are multiple levels with a bar on top for the adult kids, sampling of numerous delights and great souvenirs with the trendy Dylan logo. Every kind of candy you could possibly imagine is available dating back to our grandparents favorites, I am sure. Opened by Dylan Lauren, daughter of Ralph Lauren in 2001, she has established not only a modern day “Willy Wonka” experience but, a colorful and lucrative brand. It is a must see but I sense the best way to visit is with the intention of being on a sugar high yourself or you might be needing an Oompa Loompa to revive you from the shock of the crazy kiddies.
