There is no dearth of hotels on 44th Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues, but Hotel Sofitel grabs your attention right from the word go. The impressive glass building soars proudly above all the rest and you can’t stop yourself from stealing a second and third glance at it.
Sofitel is located one block east of the Theater District and opens onto both West 44th and West 45th streets. It’s excellent location puts it within walking distance of various tourist attractions, Broadway theaters, shopping destinations, entertainment options, museums, and restaurants.
As you enter the hotel, you are greeted by an inviting lobby that feels warm and inviting. The décor is a blend of modern, new-world look and European old-world elegance. The aesthetic sense of the hotel seems to echo a certain Parisian quality.
Sofitel offers 398 luxurious guestrooms spread over 30 stories. They are comfortable, they are spacious and in the city where space comes at a premium, there are separate glassed in tall showers and soaking tubs in the bathroom. That is a definite luxury! Want more? There are also candles and orchids, and Roget Gallet French toiletries to pamper yourself.
The rooms are designed, but not over designed, if you get what we are saying. They are decorated with vintage black-and-white photographs of Paris, abstract art, tall paneled headboards, blond furniture, burgundy-colored armchairs and cappuccino-colored carpeting. The beds are a blessing for your achy-wachy muscles and they all come with mattress-top featherbeds, knitted wool throws, non-allergenic down/feather comforters, and several oversized non-allergenic feather and foam pillows.
Other amenities of the room include desks with two-line speakerphones and high-speed Internet connections, and televisions with Internet access, video games, and pay movies. Evian water and overnight shoeshines are complimentary.
To carry the Parisian experience forward, Sofitel is home to Gaby, a French American restaurant. Named after a popular Parisian model of the twenties, both Gaby and Gaby Bar have a pre-war nostalgia kind of décor. The unique feature about the restaurant is that in warm weathers, the folding window walls can be opened, offering sidewalk-café seating to its patrons. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
And, if you still crave more for the addictive French experience, head over to the gift shop in the hotel that offers items from France.
