Madonna is teaming up with Macy’s to debut her Material Girl line August 3rd. As the name suggests, the brand will include 80′s looks inspired from Madonna’s iconic 80′s music videos and will retail between $20-$40. Madge’s 13 year old daughter Lourdes, whose resemblance to her mother is scary and is the muse for the line. While Madonna doesn’t want her daughter speaking to reporters, Lourdes has embraced her public persona through social media. In effort to promote the clothing Lourdes has started blogging. Below is her first entry on the Material Girl website:
Helluuur thurrrr, I’m Lola and this is my first blog entry so it’s kind of like ummmm….
…I am totally obsessivo about 80’s shorts… You know the kind that makes your butt look kinda big, with a grunge-looking shirt tucked in. It’s kinda nerdy but I love it. And the 80’s are another huge obsession of mine, which is totally amazingly awesome because Material Girl…HELLO! It’s like 80’s themed, which pretty much rocks, so yeah. I’m still in love with brogues or as some people call them “oxford shoes”. I haven’t found a good sandal so I’m on like a search right now.
OK but no joke gladiator sandals are OUT. They came out in summer 2008 and I was like, ok those are really cute. Then 2009 comes around and people are still wearing them so I’m like, ok whatever it’s just a phase. BUT NOOOOO. Because good old 2010 is now coming along and people are STILL wearing them, and then I was just like OK NO! It’s been three years people COME ON!!!!!!!!! I’m just like what????
A couple of things: Lola clearly has the stream of consciousness of a 13 year old down. And this is why after reading her post I can appreciate Tavi’s eloquent writing and quirky remarks even more now. Secondly, I think it’s odd Madonna is coming out with this 80′s line now–This line should have happened seasons ago when the 80′s revival was just starting! As for gladiator sandals, I will happily continue to wear mine this summer. Lastly, Madonna has chosen Taylor Momsen as the unofficial face of the campaign. Watch the teaser video here.
