Yesterday Sixteen “soldier like” swamp white oaks were planted becoming the the first of 438 trees that will one day shade the eight-acre WTC Memorial. The trees were planted at the cobblestone plaza surrounding two reflecting pools in the footprints of the fallen towers.

Joe Daniels the President of the 9/11 Memorial “It will be a sacred place where people can come together” .Progress it seems has finally come to the Ground Zero sight with this the beginnings of the 9/11 memorial is finally taking shape. To many who have stared long and hard into that empty void that is the pit at Ground Zero the sight of these trees at the former World Trade Center signifies a rebirth ,a renewal a new life .”

The hand picked oaks, already averaging 30 feet tall with 12-foot-long branches, were hauled in on flatbed trucks late Friday from a Millstone Township, NJ, nursery where they were cultivated for four years.
