If you have a young child in tow while in NYC, The Children’s Museum of Manhattan is a place you definitely don’t want to miss. With five floors of exhibits full of fun and engaging activities for a child to do, it is the kind of place that can occupy little ones for hours. In fact, one of the museum’s guidelines is that you bring an extra change of clothes for your child, so that you are well prepared for all the messy and gooey activities in store!

The activities include fun educational classes and workshops, arts and crafts, make believe games and exercises, and lots to play about with. Along the course of the day, your child may get to step into the world of some of their favorite characters from children’s books and TV shows, besides discovering hands-on all the properties of water, or crawling into a giant mouth to find out what digestion is all about, or even getting to experience working in a post office.

If they are tired of moving about, they can sit around and try their hand at some abstract art using different kinds of materials. Or perhaps you and your child may find one of the workshops of the day intriguing – it could be anything from a selection ranging from ‘MuralWall’, ‘Fantastic Face Painting’ or the ‘Basics of Taekwondo.’ Make sure that you consult the calendar on the official website to know exactly what’s happening over the week.

One of the most exciting features of this museum is that the exhibits and workshops keep changing frequently, so that children can keep coming back, and every time they find something new and exciting in store for them. In fact, the museum aims to be a regular haunt for growing children and offers a yearly membership program too. A lot of parents and educators in NYC consider this museum one of the best childhood companions they could find.

The museum also offers workshops for parents and educators so that you can understand different learning styles and personality traits in children, and the kind of activities you can do with them.

The museum is on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, and its exact address is 212 West 83rd Street. It remains open from 10 am to 5 pm, Tuesday – Sunday. It is also open from 5 pm – 8 pm on the first Friday of every month, and admission is free in these special hours. Otherwise admission costs $10 per person and $7 for seniors. Admission is free for children under the age of 1 and members. If you are taking a group of over 15 children, you will have to make reservations in advance. Eating is not allowed inside the museums, and strollers are not allowed either. If you bring strollers, they will need to be deposited outside.
