Hmm…how does that song go…diamonds are a girl’s best friend?

Amen to that thought! There sure is some sense in that, isn’t there? Jokes apart, diamonds do have something of a hold on ladies. No matter how bad the argument or how vicious a fight, one glance at this rock cradled in a velvet box is enough to set the romance afire once again.

Come Valentine, if you aim to invest a substantial part of your savings into buying a rock for your lady love, we suggest you take a trip to the Diamond District in Manhattan. The Diamond District is the world’s largest shopping district for all kinds of diamonds in varying shapes and sizes. Located in Midtown Manhattan on West 47th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, this is the best place for you to get fabulous bargains on diamonds. Generally speaking, you can get diamonds for less than half the price you may have to cough up in national chains.

The Diamond District isn’t simply a premier center for jewelry shopping. It is also one of the major centers of the global diamond industry. It is estimated than 90% of the diamonds in the United States come through New York, and most of those diamonds make their way through the Diamond District.

In the Diamond District you can find any kind of diamond, no matter what the shape, size or quality. Apart from buying jewelry items, you also have the option of buying loose diamonds, also known as unset stones. Alternatively, you can bring your own diamonds and have them set in a style of your choice. There are more than thousands of different styles for you to pick from.

In addition to diamonds, the Diamond District is a great place to buy colored gemstones, gold and platinum jewelry, pearls, antique and estate jewelry, and watches. There are establishments that offer services like jewelry and watch repairs, engraving, stone setting, and pearl restringing.

Having mentioned time and again that shopping in the Diamond District will fetch you great deals and bargains, we also feel it our responsibility to warn you that it’s very different from shopping in a mall. Finding the perfect diamond will involve a lot of stress, haggling, walking, talking, negotiating, evading, and even keeping your fingers crossed. However, if you are able to lay your hands on what you are looking for (which you can be sure you will, given all the variety here) it will be well worth the time and effort you’ve invested into the enterprise.
