One weekend, 2 weddings, 2 brides and one designer: Vera Wang rightfully earns the title of wedding gown designer extroidenaire. Only the most skilled designer could pull off designing for two high profile weddings. And without fail, Vera Wang produces extraordinary designs for Chelsea Clinton and Alicia Keys.
A la Chelsea Clinton: Vera Wang engineered the simplicity of a strapless ball gown into a breathtaking ivory silhouette. Every inch of Chelsea’s gown, from bodice to hem, was perfectly sculpted. Silk tulle overlayed laser-cut organza (laser-cut refers to the method of cutting fabric, in this case organza, with a narrow laser beam) and draped the bodice in a crisscross pattern. The ball skirt and train featured layers and tiers of swirling tulle creating a dramatic effect. Chelsea’s waist was cinched with a pearl and crystal encrusted sash which was the only embellished element. Even the veil was left unadorned. Chelsea wore peep-toe satin platforms and held a bouquet of white hydrangeas. She looked positively romantical. For the reception, she slipped into another Vera Wang number, sticking with silk tulle but choosing a Grecian gown that crisscrossed in the back and was worn with a narrow black grosgrain belt.
A la Alicia Keys: The grammy award-winning musician and expectant mother chose a modern goddess silhouette. Alicia wore a Vera Wang ivory silk georgette draped goddess one shoulder gown with jewel detail on the back shoulder. The floor sweeping gown was fitted; creating clean lines. She completed her gorgeous mediterranean inspired look with an elegant crystal encrusted headpiece and sandals, and bouquet of cascading purple calla lillies. Her groom, music producer Swizz Beatz, dressed in an ivory Tom Ford tuxedo.
