One of the most famous American private art collections is set to be auctioned off by Christie’s. The auction is set to be one of the greatest art auctions ever conducted.
The art collection originated when Mr. Sidney Brody bought a Henry Moore sculpture for his wife, Mrs. Frances Brody. From that point on, their collection featured other famous artists Pablo Picasso, Alberto Giacometti, Marino Marini, Georges Braque, Edouard Vuillard and Henri Matisse.
The premier auction will occur on May 4, 2010, headlined as Christie’s landmark Evening sale of Impressionist and Modern Art. The strength of the auction will be based on 3 specific works of art; Henri Matisse’s 1924 creation “Nu au coussin bleu” (estimated value of $20-30 million), Pablo Picasso’s 1932 creation “Nude, Green Leaves, and Bust” (estimate upon request), and Alberto Giacometti’s 1954 creation “Grande tete de Diego” (Estimated at $25-35 million). The auction will also include a selection of other major Modern paintings and sculptures, while additional fine art will be available the following evening in a dedicated single owner session.
In announcing the auction of one of the finest modern art collections worldwide, Christie’s has expressed their excitement to conduct this auction on behalf of the Brody family. The famous private collection is estimated to be valued at approximately $150 million, and is sparking the interest of many art collectors worldwide. The auction is scheduled to take place at Christie’s showroom in New York City
