A tourist attraction, Brooklyn Bridge, has become the frustration of many Brooklyn Bridge bikers. Not only the bike riders, joggers and walkers as well are becoming more frustrated with the increasing number of tourists on the already packed Brooklyn Bridge as the weather turns warm.

In the quest to get the picture perfect photo and the awesome views that the bridge offers, almost all tourists do not pay careful attention to the speeding bikes and the walkways are poorly marked which may pose a great danger. One regular bike rider who rides on the bridge to commute between his home and office said that there are many tourists who walk into the lane for cyclists unknowingly. Sometimes, tourists would just dash across the lanes with their cameras when they see something. Another cyclist bought a bell for his bicycle just for this purpose – the Brooklyn Bridge.

2009 has seen an increase of 36% bikers who rode on the bridge daily as compared to 2008. With the increase in the numbers of cyclists, frustrations with tourists who stray into the cyclists’ lane increase as well. One biker who rides on the bridge 3 times weekly cited that cycling on the bridge has become a stressful thing as she is afraid that she might bump into a small child or with another bike. Walkers are complaining too.

However, tourists are not entirely to be blamed. The paint marking the lanes between the pedestrian walkway and the bike is almost not visible in many places. The signs along the bridge are above average level and small.
