Right out of a scence from the movie Airplane a crazed JetBlue flight attendant lost his cool as his flight from Pittsburgh landed at JFK Airport today hurling obscenities at passengers over the airliner’s PA system and then deployed the emergency chute to make a dramatic 007 style escape. Steven Slater, the attendant then dashed from the tarmac to his silver Jeep Wrangler parked in an employee lot and raced home to Belle Harbor, where he was then arrested by Port Authority cops. Police charged Slater with criminal mischief and reckless endangerment.
Slater’s meltdown preceded an argument with a passenger, who after being told by Slater not to remove baggage from the overhead compartment began cursing at the Slater. The passenger insisted on opening the overhead compartment, which hit Slater in the head with the door as it dropped down. As the plane pulled up to Gate 3 at the JetBlue terminal, and as passengers began deplaning , Slater reached for the PA system and went into a tirade.
