The City of New York announced this week their plans to provide training in the Film Production Industry for local residents.
The plan, named “Made in New York” Production Crafts Training Program, will begin in spring with 20 to 25 participants trainees in its initial year, supported in the first year by $120,000 of allocated funds. The city made the announcement in hopes to help struggling minorities and women find training in Film Production.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, alongside “Law & Order” actor Anthony Anderson, made the announcement on Wednesday. The Mayor explained that the training program will help promote the entertainment industry within the City.
The announced training program stems from an initiative that began in2006. Several graduates from that initiative went on to work on the sets of “Brooklyn’s Finest” Law & Order,” “30 Rock,” and “Julia and Julia.”
For those people that enrol in this announced Film Industry training program, they will receive training in areas such as dolly operation, rigging, job readiness and the grip department. Participants of the program will also receive job placement assistance following completion of training.
The training program is set to begin in the spring, and classes will be held at Silvercup Studios in Long Island city, Queens, as well as Brooklyn Workforce Innovations.
There is widespread interest among the citizens of New York City as the Film Production Industry has seen a steady growth in the last decade. It is growth that the City hopes to continue with assistance from training programs and initiatives provided for the people of New York.
