New Yorkers run to help Haiti Victims

New Yorkers showed the spirit as they participated in mass number to support Charity event to raise money for Haiti Earthquake victims. Over 10,000 New Yorkers took part in The four-mile “Run For Haiti” which took place at the famous Central Park at New York City.

This charity event was sponsored by the mayor’s office, Central Park Department and the New York Road Runners. All the runners were asked to pay $40 as entry fees for the charity event, which were given to the New York City’s Haiti Relief Fund.

New York Road Runners President and Chief Executive Officer Mary Wittenberg was thrilled to see over 10,000 people participating in the event which helped the funds reach $400,000 mark. President was very pleased to see the numbers. She also praised all members of organizing committee who made all necessary arrangements in 18 days.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was among the participants for the charity. She was also very happy with the event and said that this money will help groups working on the ground level in Haiti trying to save people and rebuilt the country, groups like Red Cross, like Doctors without Borders etc.

The organizers were very happy to see not only young people but children and old aged people enthusiastically running for such a cause. The organizers were very surprised to see the numbers, One official said that “We weren’t expecting such a number, New York just like rest of the America is going through tough economic times but people showed the heart and proved us wrong”.
