Martin Scorsese’s latest film on the block, which incidentally is another thriller mystery titled Shutter Island, has grabbed the top spot at the box office with a weekend gross of $40.2 million on its debut. It stars Scorsese’s favorite actor in recent times Leonardo DiCaprio. This film marks the fourth collaboration between the duo and it has proved to be the most successful opening film for either of them. It took the top spot from Valentine’s Day.

The film is about a federal marshal who is stranded in a prison hospital for mental patients near the coast of Massachusetts in 1954. US Marshal Edward Daniels comes to the prison hospital to enquire more about the disappearance of a patient at the facility.

As the movie unfolds we come to know that Edward’s wife Dolores played by Micheal Williams was killed by one of the patients of the mental facility through talks between Edward(Dicaprio) and his partner Chuck Aule(Mark Rufallo). Ben Kinsgley who appears to be a very shady character enacts the hospital administrator’s character. There are a few other interesting characters in the movie as well like the escaped patient Rachel Solando essayed by Emily Mortimer and the mutilated patient who is played by Max Von Syndow.

Scorsese’s provides the information slowly through the movie and Dicaprio shifts between being a tough to a rattled person. Dicaprio acts such that his performance is inscrutable.

Though the plot is good, so far quite a few of the people who have seen the movie have not given it positive reviews. However, as this is a film from one of the great New York filmmakers, it deserves to be seen at least once.
