A valuable Henry Moore bronze sculpture worth around $80,000, which was stolen from a New York City gallery way back in 2001 has been found.

The sculpture, which shows a reclining figure, was found at the Miriam Shiell Fine Art in Toronto on Wednesday. Shiell said a man had got the sculpture to the gallery in the previous week but being suspicious she had checked the Art Loss Register which enabled her to know that the sculpture had been stolen from its original owner.

Ms. Shiell said that as the man who approached her with the sculpture had no documentation on him was the reason why she was suspicious about the sculpture being a stolen one.

This sculpture is one of the smallest ones made by Henry Moore who is regarded to be one of Britain’s finest sculptures in history. What is more interesting is the fact that more than 100 artworks of Henry Moore are on the Art Loss Register lost and stolen works. The most famous one being the sculpture weighing two tons which was stolen from a British museum in 2005.

Another interesting fact is that there have now been two instances in the same month wherein artwork, which has been stolen from New York, has turned up in Canada which is alarming say a few experts. They say that Canada could have possibly become a haven for stolen artworks.

Although the Art Loss Register did not accept this theory as they say that it is merely a coincidence that two stolen artworks were found so close to each other.
