Sloane Mansion Study

Who doesn’t want to own a house of their own? But when it comes to Sloane Mansion, the question is “Who will be lucky enough to own this ultra luxury mansion?” which has been set at a price of $64 million. Several eyebrows have disappeared into their hairlines as experts are pondering over the value set on Sloane Mansion. If it is successfully sold at this price, it will join the ranks of the most expensive properties sold in Manhattan, scoring ahead of the Harkness Mansion near Fifth Ave. that was sold for $53 million to investment banker J. Christopher Flowers.

Incidentally, the person who brokered the deal of Harkness Mansion is working on this one too. Del Nunzio, the much sought after realtor of the super rich in Manhattan, has taken charge of the sale of this premium property, probably hoping to break her own record by getting $64 million for Sloane Mansion.

This mansion is built on a 36 by 100 foot lot and originally designed by architect Charles Pierrepont H. Gilbert. Shortly after his marriage, Sloane had this town house built in 1905. It was bought by a developer in 2003 for $7.6 million, and sold only last year to an investment group for $39 million. Since then, it’s been restored to a single-family unit and has been put back in the market at an astronomical price.

The Sloane mansion is indeed stately and truly one of its kinds. There is no doubt about that. This exquisite five-story house, built on 20th century architectural guidelines, still retains the original details in five of its rooms. Original paintings adorn the walls even now and the study, fashioned after the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, has facing reflective surfaces.

Limestone facades, a marble staircase, 17-foot-high ceilings, a rooftop garden, a wood-paneled ballroom with original oil murals, seven fireplaces, fifteen bedrooms, seventeen bathrooms, an elevator, a stained-glass skylight, intricate beau-arts finishes, and three terraces complete the interiors of this mansion. Majestic is the word that comes to the mind!

At the current price, Sloane mansion has undoubtedly raised the water mark for town houses. According to sales experts, this year has been exceptionally fruitful for apartment sales in New York. However, keeping in mind the recent trends of the economy, even they are beginning to wonder if $64 million isn’t being a bit too ambitious.

That is a question that is yet to be answered. In the meanwhile, the entire market waits with baited breath to see what further developments will take place regarding this property, and who will be the next resident of Sloane Mansion.
