Here’s a sweet little story. Once upon a time there were two friends. Both of them wanted to spread sweetness and the best way to do so, they figured, was to offer delectable delights to people, scrumptious, drool-able desserts that nobody could refuse; that could bring a blissful smile onto the face of the people who popped them into their mouth.

They weren’t happy with the regular stuff, they aspired for greatness in the world of sweets; and so, they put their heads together and came up with the idea of a nice Bakery that would bring a slice of Europe to Manhattan. Thus was born the Almondine Bakery, the most exceptional bakery in all of New York.

But then again, what is to be expected when two geniuses get together with a promise to deliver the most ultimate taste ever to be experienced by your gastric juices. Up sprung this cozy little café along Park Slope’s Seventh Avenue drag. This partnership between long time friends, Poussot, (formerly of Payard and Le Bernardin in Manhattan) and Torres (Mr. Chocolate) was looked on with great wonder and those who knew them were quite sure that the outcome of such an alliance was bound to be something out of the ordinary. A little known fact about Jaques Torres is that much before he became known for his ‘chocolatey’ talent, he was the executive pastry chef at Le Cirque.

The bakery looks extremely modest in appearance and you don’t get an inkling of the visual and sensory extravaganza that awaits you as you step into it. There are marble topped tables, a working wood fireplace, and a small patio at the back. However, you barely have enough time to take all this in since you are busy staring (and also drooling!) at the brightly colored pastries that beckon you enticingly.

Here you are going to find everything that makes it literally a sin to step into this bakery – cookies, pastries, baguettes, glazed apricot tarts, dainty cakes topped with strawberries and blackberries, hot chocolate, macaroons, strawberry shortcakes, brioches, tarts, cheesecakes, and chocolate blackout cakes with peanut butter.

However, the star of the Almondine bakery is the almond croissant, and lovers of this croissant whisper the name of this heavenly preparation in awe. It is flakey, buttery, and gooey. Apart from the regular almond croissant, you can also choose from the almond-chocolate croissant, almond-raspberry croissant, and the almond-chocolate-raspberry croissant.

The Almondine pastry is an experience one has to live through to be able to comment on. Waste no time, head over there and get ready for an addiction of a whole new kind.

Hi! I heard about your bakery, but my husband and I are visiting NJ and do not know your address in NY. Do you serve lunch in your bakery–for example a ham and cheese baguette with an almond-chocolate croissant for dessert—yummmmmm. We are so excited to hearing from you and hope to see you soon. Thanks very much! Debby
