Okay, so here we are again continuing our “kid-trotting” expedition all over New York; an expedition that even the adults are beginning to enjoy.
Peanut Butter & Co
Address: 240 Sullivan Street
Phone: 212-677-3995
Our next destination is for all those people who are mad about peanut butter. There are over 20 menu items that are dedicated to this favorite sandwich topping, ranging from the classic preschool snack – “Ants on a Log” – to a delicious combination of grilled peanut butter, banana, honey and bacon, imaginatively titled “Elvis.” You can also carry home some “peanutty” goodness from this place by buying their unique peanut butter blends.
Prime Burger
Address: 5 East 51st Street (5th & Madison Avenue)
Phone: 212-759-4729
Like burgers? Of course you do. And, what better place to sink your teeth into some juicy burgers than Manhattan? There are several places where you can grab yummy burgers but “Prime Burger” is especially popular among families looking for reasonably priced burgers. It’s located near Rockefeller Center and serves out of this world onion rings, milk shakes, and homemade pies.
Serendipity 3
Address: 225 East 60th Street (2nd/3rd Avenues)
Phone: 212-838-3531
If you are in the Midtown East neighborhood and you spot a long line snaking its way through several blocks, chances are that it begins at Serendipity 3. Kids and parents flock to this restaurant for their amazing frozen hot chocolate, foot-long hotdog, and ice cream sundaes. The portions are more than substantial and you could probably survive on it for several days together. Be warned, you may have to wait as long as two hours during peak hours so you should reserve well in advance.
Shake Shack
Address: Madison Square Park (Madison Avenue & East 23rd Street)
Phone: 212-889-6600
If you want to enjoy a pleasant day in New York with an outdoor meal, there’s no better place than Shake Shack in Upper West Side. As their website proclaims, they are a “modern day “roadside” burger stand serving the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard, beer, wine and more!” Truer words couldn’t have been spoken. Order yourself some the smallish L.A.-style burgers, Chicago-style dogs; team that up with Grape Crush from the bottle, and end with frozen custard for dessert. Choose your spot on the grassy lawns and enjoy your meal.
Bespeckled Trout
Address: 422 Hudson St
Phone: 212-255-1421
Okay, the place next in line is not where you would normally go if you are looking for a meal. This is a retro candy store where you can find great chocolates and ice cream confections. So, when your kids have been on their best behavior and they deserve a treat, bring them here and get ready to pay a hefty bill.
Wow, now you have enough options to impress your kids or out of town relatives and become their hero. Take them out and show them a good time.
