Do you want a true Manhattan Style experience then head up to Harlem and 125th street and Lenox Avenue and have a meal at Sylvia’s Soul Food Restaurant. Now residents of Harlem have known about Sylvia and her family since they opened in !962, and if you go in the restaurant there are pictures of the family and every African American celebrity you can think of, including President Barack Obama. But it has only been in the resurgence of Harlem over the last decade or so that the rest of New Yorkers and tourists have shared in this incredible experience. The restaurant is large, the service terrific, and as mentioned earlier the history surrounds you. This is Southern cooking at its finest with it’s Yams, Okra and Ribs with cornbread that will melt in your mouth. And for the ultimate Soul Food taste I would recommend the Fried Chicken and Waffles smothered in maple syrup. Sylvia’s also sells a line of prepared foods, beauty and skin care products, and cook books featuring their delicious recipes. If Harlem is part of your New York experience then Sylvia’s is the place to eat.
