If you live, breathe, and dream steak, there’s no excuse for you not to be at the Bull and Bear at the Waldorf Astoria. The cost notwithstanding, Bull and Bear is the standard bearer for the finest steak you can sink your teeth into. Of course, their menu is not limited to only steaks and there a lot of other things that are definitely worth exploring, such as their impressive selection of fresh seafood.
The décor is that of quiet sophistication with plenty of wood paneling, burgundy leather bar stools, and decorative mirrors. Jazz music plays in the background and there’s an almost symphonic accompaniment in the tinkle of silverware in the room.
The sides of the square-shaped mahogany bar curve toward a central pedestal that has black statues of the famous financial prognosticators after which this institution in The Waldorf Astoria is named. The mahogany bar is very often crowded but the sounds of conversation never spill into the dining room, since both rooms are segregated by glass doors.
Bull and Bear was one of the first restaurants on the Eastern Seaboard to serve the Prime grade of Certified Angus Beef. Recently, Certified Angus Beef upgraded their standards to create a new steak, “Angus Prime. It is the new “best steak” in town.
According to Angus representative, Deanna Scrimger, Angus Prime has the highest quality standards. She says that “less than 2 percent of Angus beef qualifies for Prime.” But, if you are dreaming about ordering a plate of this amazing steak, there’s just one place it’s available – the Bull and Bear! According to General Manager Jeff Buszta, Bull and Bear is the “only restaurant on the East Coast to serve Angus Prime.” You won’t be able to get it at your local butcher or grocer.
A cut of Angus Prime at the Bull and Bear is “dry-aged for three weeks,” says John Doherty, executive chef at Bull and Bear. In fact, it’s not even on the menu yet, and those who’ve had the good fortune to savor its taste have claimed that nothing on this planet comes close to it. It is served with creamed spinach and gourmet French fries.
Get in this place, order a big martini, soak in the music and enjoy steaks like you’ve never had before. It’s an experience you are going to get addicted to!
