Naked Lunch shares its name with William Burrough’s novel, that too intentionally. When the current owners of this bar and lounge stumbled on this place, it was as uninspiring as a place could possibly be. However, they decided to do it up and turn it into the most happening address in New York once the sun went down. This sleek So-Ho dance bar retains a certain understated sophistication about it and the décor even has some elements of the book in the lounge, the wall lighting, and the concave wooden ceiling. Even if the patrons haven’t read the book, they are bound to have heard about or watched the movie and that is enough to create an impression.
The Naked Lunch owes part of its popularity to the legal license it has that allows dancing. So, when you feel the need to let your hair down, make a beeline for this place. Whether it’s the salsa or the jive, the music of the eighties or something more contemporary, music sounds better here and you find yourself grooving automatically to the beats. The drinks sure do help
In the hot summer months, the lounge removes the tall windows out at the front and the patrons literally spill out onto Thompson Street. No more sitting in a stuffy room to enjoy your drinks! In the winters, people flock to the Naked Lunch for some drinks to warm them up and some fun to lighten them up. This smart bar and lounge also has some occasional celebrities, waltzing in and out of the place, immune to the stares that they receive from those who do manage to recognize them.
Certain days of the week are reserved for exclusive offers, for instance Tuesdays are Martini nights from 9-12 and Wednesdays are the free BBQ nights from 7-10. Thursdays have been christened the old school nites where they play classic rock, funk, soul, R&B, and classic hip hop. If you are aiming for the happy hours, it is Tuesday-Friday from 5pm-9pm, with $2 off drinks. However, considering how this place is always packed thanks to its undying popularity, reserve your table in advance or try to hit this place before the crowd starts swarming in.
The Naked Lunch is also a great place for all kinds of parties – ranging from birthdays to bachelorette parties and even corporate events for all sized gatherings, big or small. For parties, gatherings, and events that are going to be the talk of the town, you wouldn’t be able to find a better venue than the Naked Lunch Bar and Lounge.
