If you are talking about shopping and fashion in New York City then the top of everyone’s list from tourists to residents of the city is Bloomingdale’s. This institution was founded in 1872, originally selling a wide variety of European fashions, essentially inventing the term “Department Store.” Bloomingdale’s began its move uptown in 1886, ultimately finishing its expansion at its current location in 1927 where it takes up one full New York City block and nine levels upward into Manhattan’s skyline. We suggest visiting the International Service Center/Visitor Center located on the first floor, with the volumes of different types of goods sold in the store they can help you make the most of your shopping experience. Some of the highlights of the store include the Bway which is located in the center of the store, this department sells New York’s finest fragrances and cosmetics and has long been one of New York’s most famous shopping areas featured prominently in hundreds of movies and books throughout the years.Take the Art Deco elevators to the second floor and begin browsing all the women’s designer clothes. Actually, this experience is so expansive it begins on the second floor but you won’t be finished viewing their name designer collections until you have reached the 4th floor. Designers such as Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Giorgio Armani and their collections, just to name a very few, are featured throughout the women’s section. The Men’s section is located on the lower level, all suits and clothing for the most Bohemian customer to New York’s most conservative can find what they like in this newly remodeled section of the department store. Floors 8 and 9 are dedicated as the children’s department for infants, toddlers, young boys and girls. Parents can fill all their children’s fashion needs here, there is also Bloomingdale’s famed toy department located on the the 8th floor as well. Floors 5 thru 7 carry home items such as furniture, mattresses, bedding crystal, cookware, kitchenware, luggage, electronics just to name a few of the items sold on these three floors. One can not say they have had the total New York shopping experience without visiting this institution. To shop at Bloomingdales is not only to shop New York City’s most famous Department Store, it is the worlds most famous Department Store, and it is synonymous with Manhattan Style.
