With the Wave, Samsung has made its first move in taking on smartphone giants like Android and iPhone. The company is relying quite heavily on this phone to make a bold statement and to convert a large number of smartphone users in to Wave-lovers. However, there is still some speculation on whether smartphone buying public is ready for yet another operating system – Bada.

Style-wise Samsung Wave has a lot going for it. There’s no doubt that it’s a beautiful looking phone, with all the features you associate with a typical Samsung phone –from  the slim aluminum casing to the diamond shaped Home button flanked by call and end keys. The phone states its premium breed in no fewer words and a lot of people are going to be wowed by it at first look.

A major part of the front panel is taken up by the 3.3 Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. To say that the screen is responsive is putting things mildly. Its level of detail is razor sharp as are the contrasts and the deep black levels are all clearly visible. Samsung capitalizes on its leading position in OLED screen technology and the Wave comes with a 480×800 pixel resolution. Besides, if you are constantly complaining about the amount of homescreen space you have, Wave will have you thinking otherwise.

The Wave is a 3G phone that comes with GPRS and EDGE data connections along with HSDPA and HSUPA.  It also has a built-in Wi-Fi. It has the Bluetooth 3.0 version, making Wave one of the first phones to feature this latest version of Bluetooth, allowing you super-fast connectivity and transfer speeds. Also, it has a built-in assisted GPS, a digital compass and the Samsung Mobile Navigator software.

The Wave has an excellent camera, with the ability to share content from PC to phone to TV easily. The camera also has features like face and smile recognition, blink detection, geo-tagging, autofocus and an LED flash. The media functions in the phone are quite good. You get a great movie, music, and photo experience.

Samsung is currently the most desirable phone in the market. There are a few drawbacks, such as the speed with which you surf the internet, but overall the phone scores with its good looks, and it does pack quite a punch. As for the new OS – only time will tell whether cell phone users will take to the Bada or not.
