Sony Ericssion Xperia X10 Mini – phew, that’s quite a long name for a phone that can practically get lost in the palm of your hand! After all, it is the smallest Android phone in the market today. The designers of Xperia X10 Mini believe that this is one phone that will be grabbed by the ladies. We feel that the guys will also see the appeal in the compact sized X10 Mini that’s just about as large as their credit card, but loaded with all the essential features of a smartphone.
The X10 Mini is not content being just a shrunken version of the Xperia X10 and goes about setting an identity for itself. Even though it looks like a really sweet phone, it hasn’t been tagged as a fashionable device. The smaller screen doesn’t lend the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini a very Android phone like feel. However, we feel that adds to the appeal of the phone, instead of detracting from it. It’s refreshing to have an Android phone that is devoid of the in-your-face Android features.
The X10 Mini is a joy to use. It doesn’t matter how many applications you are running or what features you are multitasking, you simply fly through the menus and applications. It’s amazing to see a phone this size pack such a knockout punch speed-wise. There is absolutely zero lag thanks to X10 Mini’s 600MHz processor and the low-resolution 320 x 240 display. Battery life is fantastic; in fact, quite unbelievable. As compared to its predecessor X10, you get more than double the uptime. That should make you happy, especially since the Mini is half the price of its X10 sibling.
On the flipside, we do anticipate that men with chunky fingers are going to struggle with the X10 Mini. It’s meant for piano players and those with dainty fingers. The low-resolution screen that helps save on battery consumption gives the text a rather dull look. Web browsing on the tiny lackluster screen could be a bit of a put off, or you will be perpetually fiddling around with the zoom tool.
Towards the end, we believe that in the X10 Mini, both Sony Ericsson and Android have delivered a smartphone that has great mass appeal – a probable winner, we say.
