The Dell Studio 1747 laptop has everything you might possibly want for in a notebook – nice screen options, great speakers, a capable graphics card, and a fast processor. This multimedia laptop has a 17″ screen and comes in five colors and multiple configurations. This model can be equipped with dedicated ATI graphics and Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It comes with a backlit keyboard, slot-loading DVD drive, sleek drop-hinge design, touch sensitive buttons, and widescreen glossy display.
When you look at the design of the Studio 17, it doesn’t differ greatly from the other models in the Studio line. The laptop’s lid is satin and attracts fingerprints like a magnet. Inside, the chassis has a matte black keyboard with a gray palm rest. Both appear to be scratch resistant, and they don’t need to be constantly cleaned and wiped down to look smudge free. Some features of the Studio 17, like the glowing power button seems to have been borrowed from the high-end Studio XPS line, but it seems to lack the elegance and some other accents of that line.
Let’s move on to the keyboard and touchpad. The keyboard of this particular model is extremely comfortable to type on and the palm rest provides complete support to your forearms. The touch pad of Studio 17 is a Synaptics model and has multi-touch support as well. There are some advanced features, such as two-finger scrolling, pinch zoom, rotating, and a three-fingered flick. The touchpad is extremely sensitive and it is able to pick up the slightest touch effortlessly.
Even though the 17.3-inch display of the Dell Studio 17 isn’t full HD, the 1600 x 900 resolution works quite well. You can easily watch your favorite movies and videos on the laptop and enjoy the crisp and bright pictures. Even when you watch from the sides of the laptop, the pictures and videos are still pretty clear. And, the JBL speakers may look small, but they are quite impressive when you consider the performance.
The camera on the Studio 17 is 2.0-megapixel, a higher resolution than some other laptops which offer a typical 1.3-MP. The image quality is great and the photographs you take are quite detailed.
