The big Apple has the biggest Apple Store! Howzzat? Or, we could say that the city that never sleeps has now got an Apple Store that refuses to sleep too. The new shiny spot that has mushroomed in front of the GM building in midtown NYC is going to be the new haunt of New Yorkers hunting for the latest Apple products and accessories. The huge underground store located at 767 Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets, neighboring Central Park, FAO Schwarz and Bergdorf Goodman is going to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year!
Apart from being Apple’s only round the clock store, it is also the most architecturally innovative store with a distinctive 32-foot glass cube that’s soon going to become one of the famous landmarks of NYC. This glass cube is the only part of the Apple Store that stands above plaza level. In order to reach the store, customers have to take the spiral staircase to the sales floors underground or ride the transparent cylindrical glass elevator. These days, simply getting into a shop can also be quite an adventurous trip in itself
This massive Apple store will employ more than 300 employees and the Genius Bar alone will have more than 100 full time staff offering dedicated attention and help. For those who are not aware, the Genius Bar is where the customers get technical advice for their products along with repair and set up services. In this store, there are more than 100 Macs and nearly 200 iPods that customers get to try before they buy the actual product. In addition, it also has the world’s largest assortment of accessories.
For its ever increasing iPod customers, the store also has the iPod Bar. In this Apple Store the Genius Bar, iPod Bar and The Studio have been combined into one long 45 feet stretch! By the way, in case you are wondering, “The Studio” is where customers meet with a “Creative” (a person who provides training sessions on a variety of topics for one to one customers) to get help with things like how to organize a photo album to how to compose music. In order to know your way around an Apple Store, you will have to pick up the Apple Lingo pretty fast!
It’s quite amazing to see such an amazing and extravagant step being taken at a time when the entire retail sector is treading cautiously and trying to get a steady hold on terra firma after the recession and reduced consumer demands. However, Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO seems pretty confident about the success of his stores. In his own words, “With outstanding service and an amazing location open 24 hours a day, we think the Apple Store Fifth Avenue is going to be a favorite destination for New Yorkers and people around the world.” And this genius may just be right…again!
